A commercially run company, owned by the island
Connect Saint Helena Ltd provides electricity, water and wastewater services to the whole of St Helena, as a commercial company under regulatory oversight.
Connect Saint Helena Ltd was established in 2013 as part of a divestment programme moving utility services out of direct government delivery. The company is owned on behalf of the island and run on commercial lines, with tariffs and performance overseen by the St Helena Utilities Regulatory Authority.
Our mission is straightforward: provide utility services safely, reliably, and at a viable cost to consumers.
What we are responsible for
- Generating and distributing all of the island's electricity
- Capturing, treating and distributing drinking water
- Collecting, pumping and treating wastewater
- Metering, billing and customer service for all three
- 24-hour emergency response across the whole island
Vision & values
Our vision is to contribute towards a sustainable island environment that creates opportunity and inspires social and economic progress, including the long-term aim of generating 80% of the island's electricity from renewable sources.
Our core values shape how we work with customers and with each other:
- People matter. We treat each other with dignity, trust and respect, and work as one team.
- Openness. We embrace diversity, honesty and openness, and recognise that professional differences of opinion make the way we work stronger.
- The best people. We support the recruitment, retention and development of the very best people.
- Accountability. Every member of the team is accountable and, where it applies, shows leadership.
- Simplicity. We keep things simple wherever we can.
- Integrity. We hold ourselves to the highest standards of ethical behaviour.
- Lasting relationships. Our future success lies in long-term relationships with our team, customers, suppliers, contractors and everyone we work with.
How we are accountable
We publish our tariffs, annual report and accounts, strategic plan, utility statistics and water quality results openly. They are all in the documents library rather than available on request.
If we get something wrong, our complaints procedure sets out how to raise it, what response times to expect, and how to escalate beyond us to the regulator.
